Complexity Economics: The Future Is Now, Karolina Safarzyńska
Traditional economic models, which assume, among other things, that people make rational choices, striving for the greatest benefits, struggle to explain and predict many economic and social phenomena. The solution to these problems lies in so-called complexity economics, which has only recently emerged thanks to the development of computer processing power. In her lecture, Professor Karolina Safarzyńska will discuss this research approach and what complexity economics contributes to understanding various crises (financial, inequality, climate).
Dr. Karolina Safarzyńska is a professor at the University of Warsaw, where she works in the Department of Political Economy. She conducts research in the area of complexity economics and behavioral economics, including on issues such as climate policy and sustainable development. In 2022, she received the National Science Centre Award in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Arts for developing theoretical models that allow for the study of the impact of bounded rationality, preference diversity, and social interactions on climate policy.
