Preparing walls for gluing wallpaper with your own hands begins with cleaning the walls from old wallpaper, paint or plaster. At the same time, for each type of technological operations there are their own
Wallpaper is removed, as a rule, by ordinary soaking. If this does not work, it is possible to use special compounds - which can be bought in liquid or dry form, they allow you to remove all types and types of wallpaper from the walls, regardless of the type of glue with which they were glued.
After removing the wallpaper, we saw a smooth concrete wall with a lot of shells. Modern technology involves applying adhesive primers to such surfaces, which entails a large additional set of works, but we will go the other way, since there are a great many sinks, we will use them as a basis for applying a thin layer of plaster. We will make this wall like this. Before starting work, priming is mandatory. Then we dilute the plaster we have and apply it in a thin layer, using a spatula from 300 to 600 mm in size, whichever you like best, over the entire surface. We do not pay attention to the fact that not all the sinks are covered with mortar, this is even to our advantage. After drying, the next stage begins, the dirtiest and dustiest. If you are not ready for this, then our method is not for you. And so after drying, we begin to sand the surface. For this, we need an abrasive mesh and a grater for such a mesh. For our work we use a mesh with a grain number of 60. Do not try to create a perfectly flat surface – the task of this stage is to remove the unevenness resulting from applying a thin layer of plaster with a spatula. Sanding is hard work that requires a lot of physical effort. In the narrow space in which we work, it also requires a lot of patience and nerves of steel, because: it is uncomfortable to stand, furniture constantly gets in the way, not to mention dust and dirt. When carrying out such work, I recommend that you always use a protective mask and gloves. After sanding, be sure to sweep away all the dust that has formed from the wall. Next, cover the wall with a layer of primer again. First, remove everything that remains from sanding, and there is quite a lot left. For priming, I recommend using a small roller, we usually use a roller 100 mm wide. Why? Because it allows you to apply the primer to the walls more efficiently: in an even, smooth layer. Prime from top to bottom. Let the wall dry, allocate the time prescribed by the manufacturer. After drying, we proceed to puttying. We use this putty. You can use any other, but we prefer this one. I warn you: this putty is difficult to sand, but the surface is durable and capable of bearing loads. When purchasing materials, be sure to look at the production dates, the closer the production date to the date of work, the better. The putty should be diluted in such a way that it is convenient for you to apply it. Apply the putty in a thin, even layer. There are many application technologies. We will not touch on this, apply as you find most convenient - the main thing is that there are no bumps or thick layers that will have to be sanded later. Use a spatula that is comfortable for you, for example, now we are using a 350 mm spatula. If you have never held a spatula in your hands, I recommend starting with small areas of the walls. This is what a wall covered with a layer of putty looks like. Then we sand the surface. Again dust and dirt. Don't forget about the dust on the walls, remove it very carefully.
Now let's calculate how much material we spent on a wall measuring 5.5 meters by 2.55 meters, with an area of 14 m2.:
1. Primer in three layers is about 4 liters, which is about 320 rubles.
2. Plaster is about 12 kg, which is about 210 rubles.
3. Putty is about 4 kg, which is about 110 rubles.
4. Mesh grain 60, a pack of 10 sheets was used, the consumption depends on the quality of the mesh. 220 rubles.
5. Roller 100 mm 40 rubles.
The rest, and this is a handle for the roller, gloves, brushes, mask, grater for the mesh, we will not count, because this is not very correct. The repair is ongoing and we will use these tools for other jobs.
So, the costs were 900 rubles.
