For pattern designers using Adobe Illustrator, selecting colors without transferring opacity settings can be a challenge. The AG Color Select tool is the perfect solution for those with the Astute Graphics plugin subscription. It picks solid colors from areas with overlapping transparent fills without transferring the opacity setting. It eliminates the need to flatten transparency first, which is required when using Illustrator’s native eyedropper tool to avoid picking up transparency settings. It's been unused in my toolbox for years, and I just discovered it!
To use it, click to grab the color as it appears on the screen.
Or, hold Shift while selecting to keep the transparency.
To save Swatches:
Hold Option/Alt to save the color as a swatch.
Hold Shift + Option/Alt to save the color as a global swatch.
This tool does not replace the Adobe Illustrator Eyedropper tool but complements it by offering additional functionality. Use the Illustrator Eyedropper tool to sample appearance or apply color swatches to your art.
