2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is expected to launch in the 2019 calendar year as a 2020 model, thereby becoming the range-topping model of the Mustang lineup.
When it goes on sale this fall, the GT500 will be the most powerful street-legal Ford ever, with more than 700 horsepower under its hood. Featuring a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 mated with a first-in-its-class seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, Ford says the GT500 will be able to hit 60 mph in less than three seconds and turn the quarter-mile in less than eleven seconds. The all-aluminum V-8 is built by hand, with cylinder heads optimized for maximum airflow, larger forged connecting rods, and internal passages improved for better lubrication and cooling. A Roots-type supercharger with 2.65-liters of the volume features an air-to-liquid intercooler. A carbon-fiber driveshaft routes all that power to the rear wheels; the dual-clutch transmission is capable of changing gears in less than 100 milliseconds. There are several selectable drive modes, including normal, weather, sport, drag and track, and activates features such as line-lock and launch control.
Following are our expectations of the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500:
1. Building on performance attributes of Shelby GT350
2. New front and rear fascias that are aggressive in appearance and feature greater aerodynamic properties
3. The supercharged variant of the flat-plane crank V-8 engine used in the Shelby GT350, making over 700 horsepower and mated to a choice of Direct shift transmission or 6-speed manual transmission, sending power to the rear wheels
4. 20-inch wheels
