In this video lesson we will learn how to interpret a fraction as division. We will discover that a fraction can be written as the numerator divided by the denominator. We will perform long division to determine the decimal equivalent to the fraction. We will also learn how to write a base ten fraction as a decimal. We will rewrite a mixed number as a fraction as well. Student practice is embedded in the lesson with modeled exemplar solutions.

Common Core Math Standards
Understand decimal notation for fractions, and compare decimal fractions.
4.NF.C.5 Express a fraction with denominator 10 as an equivalent fraction with denominator 100, and use this technique to add two fractions with respective denominators 10 and 100.
Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division.
5.NF.B.3 Interpret a fraction as division of the numerator by the denominator (a/b = a ÷ b). Solve word problems involving division of whole numbers leading to answers in the form of fractions or mixed numbers, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem.
7.NS.A.2d Convert a rational number to a decimal using long division; know that the decimal form of a rational number terminates in 0s or eventually repeats.
