A. M. Cherepashchuk "60 Years of X-ray Astronomy" 11/25/2022 "Scientist's Tribune"
On November 25, a lecture by Anatoly Mikhailovich Cherepashchuk, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Scientific Director of the P.K. Sternberg State Astronomical Institute at Lomonosov Moscow State University, and Deputy Chairman of the Moscow Planetarium Academic Council, was held in the Moscow Planetarium's conference hall.
The meeting was devoted to X-ray astronomy, which is considered a uniquely rich science and a key element of multi-channel astronomy.
The lecture recalled the events of 1962, when Riccardo Giacconi and his colleagues attempted to detect lunar X-rays using Geiger counters mounted on the Aerobe sounding rocket. While no lunar radiation was detected, the experiment did discover a very powerful X-ray source in the constellation Scorpius.
Sixty years have passed since then. Anatoly Mikhailovich Cherepashchuk spoke about the methods used today for studying space objects in the X-ray range.
