“Inundation” by Matteo Sohn, a short piano composition written at the High School Composition Intensive at Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

Performed live by pianist Haram Kim on July 16, 2024 at Seully Hall, 8, Fenway Boston Massachusetts

Inspired by Romantic-Era piano etudes, primarily those written by Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and Liszt, this piano composition expresses a multitude of emotions despite its short duration. It demonstrates ferocious anger, a soft side that features the commonly used Dies Irae motif, and ends with a powerful mixed-metered coda. The piece itself resembles the fast pacing and vigor used students at HSCI experienced, as we were tasked with writing pieces like this just within our first two days of the program.
