The Heretofore Untold Story Of The Unveiling Of A Plaque - PREVIEW
In July 1989, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother visited the Church of St Mary Magdalene in Toronto and unveiled a plaque commemorating the life and work of its long-time organist and choirmaster, the composer Healey Willan. Filmmakers Ewa Mlozniak and Anthony Sloan used the event as an opportunity to make a group portrait of a lively Christian community. As life would have it, it took them twenty years to get round to editing the footage!
The result is above all entertaining, an 'ethnographic comedy' which lends itself not only to religious studies, but also to cultural studies, history and Canadian literature, as well as film studies.
