The Hump-nosed Lizard (Lyriocephalus scutatus), also known as the Lyreshead Lizard, is a true Sri Lankan gem. This arboreal agamid is the island's largest, dwelling in the country's dense wet zone forests.
Males are the real showstoppers. They boast bright green scales, a yellow throat pouch, and an impressive neck sail. Females are typically brown, but can also display the male's colors. Their namesake hump appears on the heads of adults, adding to their unique look.
Hump-nosed lizards are insectivores, using their sharp vision to snatch prey. While primarily active during the day, they can also be spotted at night clinging to branches for rest.
