Collioure the “city of painters”
An old fishing and wine-growing village on the red coast in Northern Catalonia, known for its anchovies, Collioure has been a source of inspiration for painters such as Matisse, Derain, Chagall, Gris, Braque, Picasso, Dufy and Dalí, among others. others, who have portrayed the castle, the narrow streets or the picturesque bell tower of its church by the sea. In its cemetery are the tombs of Antonio Machado and the novelist Patrick O'Brian, who lived between 1949 and 2000.
