Considering how rare dinosaur fossils are, especially compared to marine invertebrates, it is remarkable that not only do we have quite a large diversity of dinosaur genera - about 1000 described genera - but we also have enough specimens to show that we have transitions between almost all major dinosaur groups, as well as many other notable fossils showing other types of transitions, such as carnivorous dinosaurs that became herbivores. In this article, we will first look at those dinosaurs that have nothing to do with birds. Starting with the first dinosaurs such as Eoraptor and Herrerasaurus from the Triassic, the most popular prehistoric animals evolved.
