AUGUSTO COALI
Augusto Coali was commissioner of the Pontifical Gendarmerie and responsible for the pontiff's security.
In this interview, he tells us about his work in the Vatican, which began in 1962 under the pontificate of Pope John XXIII, and subsequently worked on the security of five popes.
His most significant experience was with John Paul II, where he served as his personal security guard. In this capacity, he witnessed the assassination attempt by Ali Ağca on May 13, 1981.
