Are you following the Gonzalez vs Google Supreme Court case?

If you’re a blogger who uses social media to get eyeballs on your content, or you run ads on your site for revenue, you’re going to want to keep up with this.

This case has two primary impacts.

The first deals with Section 230 of the Communications and Decency Act

It states whether platforms like Facebook and YouTube can be held liable for content and algorithms to pump up hatred and violence.

Right now they can’t be held liable for those things.

The second big part of this case involves Google earning ad revenue from sites that promote content that promotes hatred and violence.

And then Google shared that revenue with groups that do that sort of promotion, like ISIS.

If Google losses this case, it could cost them $168 billion in ad revenue. And where Google ad money goes, so does yours.

And, loss for this on Google will mean all platforms could be held liable the same way.
