There’s one setting you need to check immediately on your new GA4 property.
It’s called Data Retention and it impacts how long your analytics data is available.
Let’s see it.
Access Data Retention
Log into your GA4 Property.
In the left sidebar, click Admin.
In the second column, click Data Settings. And then Data Retention.
Set the Default
The default is for 2 months, which is insane.
But, Google had to do it to ensure site owners had a way to choose what works best for their GDPR compliance needs.
For most bloggers, 14 months is a much better option.
And then click Save when you’re done.
More GDPR Settings
There are many more GDPR compliance settings in GA4.
The BlogAid GA4 course will show you where to find them, plus give you tips on how best to set them for your needs, including how to avoid thresholding on your data, and how those settings could impact your ad agency or brand deals too.
