In this video, I dive into the latest update for my Add Bloom Back add-on—now fully compatible with Blender 5. If you've been following this journey since July 2024, you know exactly what's coming: reliable updates, transparent communication, and ongoing support that doesn't stop when Blender's Foundation decides to rearchitect the rendering engine.
So what's different this time around? Blender 5 just launched, and yes, bloom is still missing from Eevee Next. But here's the thing—version 1.5 of the add-on is ready to go, and if you bought it 18 months ago, you just got this update completely free. That's three major Blender versions, three free updates, and counting.
Now, I know what some of you are thinking. "Mike, this is just a glare node in the compositor. Can't I do this myself?" Absolutely. And I'm not going to hide that from you. In this video, I actually show you the manual method step-by-step. Switch to the compositor, add a glare node, connect it, set the type to Fog Glow, adjust the threshold and size, enable the compositor in your viewport—done. Takes about 30 seconds once you know what you're doing.
But here's what you're really paying for: you're not paying for the knowledge of how to add a glare node. You're paying for never having to remember those steps again. You're paying for 18 months of proven, consistent support. You're paying for the certainty that when Blender 6 comes out—and it will—this will still work, and you won't have to figure it out all over again.
I've optimized the code for Blender 5's updated compositor system, refined the interface based on user feedback over the past year and a half, and ensured that all the core features you rely on—one-click bloom setup for both Eevee Next and Cycles, automatic compositor configuration, and all the fine-tuning controls—are still here and better than ever.
If you're coming from an older version, just uninstall it first, drag and drop the new file into Blender, and you're ready to go. One click, and you've got bloom working perfectly in Blender 5. No fuss, no frustration, no wasted time trying to remember which node goes where.
That's the value proposition. Convenience, reliability, and ongoing support. One-time purchase, free updates forever. If that sounds like something that would save you time and frustration, grab the add-on. Link's in the description.
