Denis Tsyplenkov easily defeated Devon Larratt in 2018. Some predicted he would also defeat Levan, as Denis was in excellent shape. However, he suddenly disappeared from view due to health issues. Some said he had a stroke, others blamed steroids. But what really happened?
Let's find out!
The reason Denis was forced to temporarily retire from the sport was a kidney problem, specifically a ruptured renal vessel. He underwent surgery, during which a stent was placed near the artery. This injury led to a number of other problems. His immune system was weakened, and as a result, he developed facial nerve neuritis.
Naturally, after this, Denis decided to take a break from heavy training and focus on his health. Six months later, he resumed training, but no longer in a forced manner, but gradually increasing his intensity. As Denis himself stated, by the end of October 2020, he had regained approximately 70% of his former strength.
But then COVID-19 arrived and devastated Denis again. This happened on November 6, 2020. He himself said he hadn't trained at all for a month and a half. And, of course, he lost his form again.
