How does the YouTube algorithm work? It isn't so much about how YouTube channels become popular, but moreso about how YouTube chooses to serve them up to people, and how those people react the video via click-thru rate, watch time, and the thumbnail and title combo. Watch time is broken down into watched minutes & session time separately, but also in addition to "watch time," and then audience retention. Let's say, for example, that you had a video about a cat pressing a button, YouTube would measure how long you wait to watch that cat press that button and also the timing of the videos you watched afterwards. Ad companies buy ads in the breakspots, which you can usually click off of after a matter of seconds, but also measures if you do that to quantify whether or not to show you that kind of commercial or not in the future. Being the second biggest search engine in the world, YouTube also classifies authority on channels based on their audiences.

In this video, we discuss how important watch time can be vs.your average view, as far as the Youtube algorithm does, as well as as show you. the difference in impact of what you’re giving people. Let's say a video does very well, but it's only 3 minutes long, it will still get blown away by the next video with twice as many views, even if people watched the whole first video, but only parts of the second one. This is why figuring out your optimal watch time is an easy and important thing to do to make sure you're not playing to some empty seats out there. We also cover watch time and how it can affect a single video. Having an organically high watch time can lead to more views, and followers, than organically high view count, as they now go hand-in-hand.

In this video, Social Bluebook explains how to really tackle the main factors that YouTube is looking for optimization-wise for when you're starting a new channel, written and produced by experts in the field with more than 14 years experience behind it. In this video, you'll learn the "why" behind why YouTube shows you some channels over others and how it isn't just a game where you gain points and everything is black and white. Social Bluebook strives to tell people what's happening as it's happening, updating itself when algorithms, policies, and rules change among social networks. In this video you'll learn: Why does YouTube show some videos instead of others? How does YouTube choose which videos to show you? Why isn't YouTube showing my videos more often if I have a lot of subscribers? Why aren't I getting more views on my videos if my subscribers are shooting up? Who isn't showing up in searches and why? How is my YouTube video doing and how can I make it better in the future? The answer to most of these questions is that it starts in the beginning of when you start to even write your content, as it needs to match the intent behind the thumbnail, the video title, and the tags.
