📝 This video discusses massage and cranial osteopathic techniques for traumatic brain injuries, contusions, headaches, hearing loss, chronic stress, depression, and other pathological conditions associated with impaired cerebral circulation and cerebrospinal fluid flow.
An important stage of the massage is restoring cranial mobility and the function of the cranial pump, which consists of the occipital and sphenoid bones (the sphenobasilar symphysis, or SBS), responsible for the movement of cerebrospinal fluid from the head to the spine and back. This biochemical process is analogous to cooling a radiator in a car. The SBS is a mechanism that ideally should move freely, like a screw pump. The function of the cranial pump is important for maintaining brain health and overall body function.
The next step in the massage technique is restoring mobility in the cervical spine and the cervicocranial junction. Correct head positioning must be achieved, and for this, adjustment of the first cervical vertebra, the atlas, is essential.
Another important stage of cranial work is the temporal bone. Restoring mobility to this bone has a positive effect on the functioning of the brain and sensory organs, particularly hearing.
After restoring mobility to the occipital, sphenoid, and temporal bones, the massage therapist moves on to working with other bones of the cranial and facial regions of the skull.
