A vault is an arched structure that forms a ceiling or roof over a partial or fully enclosed space. The multiple types of vaults are the Corbel Vault, Barrel Vault, Conical Vault, Annular Vault, Groin Vault, and Underpitch Vault.

The Cobel Vault is made up of corbeling courses of stone masonary. There is no arch with the vault. The Barrel Vault has a semicircular cross section, it is sometimes called the tunnel vault. The Conical Vault is characterized by having one end that is higher than the other which results in a difference in cross sections. The Annular Vault has a circular plan that forms the shape of a ring. The Groin Vault is created through the perpendicular intersection of 2 vaults. The Underpitch Vault is a compound vault with a central vault that is intersected by lower pitch vaults.
