PARIS COVID TRAVEL RESOURCES - How Americans can obtain the QR Code Pass Sanitaire in France
Are you beyond ready to travel? You’re ready to plan your Parisian escape, but you’re wanting to know more about Paris and the current covid situations? Great! Let’s talk life in Paris, Covid, & Travel - what's going on? *Important Links Updated Below on 6th November.
Is Paris Travel Open? - YES - Paris is open! For all sakes and purposes life here feels pretty normal. Museums, major tourist attractions, restaurants, they’re all open! France is open for Americans to travel here again. People continue to receive their vaccines, the country is currently at 87% vaccinated.
We’re providing some useful resources for you to feel confident in your decision to travel again, whether it be now or in a few months. My disclaimer right away is that I’m not an expert by any means, I’m simply someone living in Paris right now and can tell you what life is like at this point. Think of me as your best friend that lives half-way around the world.
We have friends and family visiting in the next month (end of August and mid-September) so we are staying abreast of the information and current conditions for them and for our photography clients.
What are the Paris travel restrictions currently?
The biggest change here is the implementation of the Pass Sanitaire or EU digital covid certificate.
WHAT IS IT? - The pass sanitaire is a QR code version of your proof of vaccination and it allows you to get in everywhere - restaurants, museums, trains, etc.
HOW TO GET IT
It's now transitioned back to the pharmacies! Which is a good thing as you'll be assured you'll receive it, you won't have to fear taking a covid test every 72 hrs.
**YOUR QR CODE WILL BE RECOGNIZED in other EU Countries. Yay! So if you are traveling from France to somewhere else in the EU, you’ll be all set.
ONCE YOU'RE HERE ...you can show your printed QRcode to get into places.
WHEN YOU LEAVE FRANCE
Currently only the rapid results antigen test is needed upon returning to the U.S. These can easily be obtained at most pharmacies. The rates are capped at 29€ for the antigen test and 49€ for the PCR in the event you need a PCR test. (I believe this may be changing this month that you may not need one to return home....)
The other thing I hadn't considered much until doing this research for you is travel insurance. If there ever was a time to consider travel insurance, I would think it is now. It's something to consider too to give you more peace of mind with your planning.
Ultimately, you have to make the best choice for yourself, and we realize that looks different for everyone right now. We simply want you to have the resources easily accessible to feel comfortable with your decision. As a whole we feel like life is relatively normal here in Paris at the moment. To me it's a great time to visit because it's not swarming with a gazillion tourists, so it's a unique time in that aspect.
