School Days Intro Upscale Showcase [1080p]
I think this technology is helpful in cases like here where HD versions don't exist in the wild, though this game doesn't really need it. The game scales its assets well enough that a botched upscale would hurt fidelity more then it'd help in my opinion. That being said I've chosen these animations for testing the upscaling since from my experience it works best with videos like this one. I've also chosen this animation since its very likely a native HD master doesn't even exist in the original studios hands, I will touch on that later.
I have not applied frame generation, there's thousands of reasons why, which I could go on forever about. Just know its for the better that I don't. (See: • Smoother animation ≠ Better animation [rea... by @noodlefunny)
You could argue the same for upscaling and I'd agree on cases where its applied horribly or not at all needed. However here it does provide a tangible boost in fidelity, given that its applied well. Upscaling should never be used as a replacement for releasing actual HD masters however. Due to the time period this game was made in, I am doubtful they exist. (See: / 8h1al9ajye by u/cylifo)
