How to Create and Restore a System Image Backup in Windows 11

Step-by-Step Instructions:
Part 1: Creating the System Image
1 - Open Backup Settings: Search for "Control Panel" in the Start menu. Change the view to "Small icons" and select Backup and Restore (Windows 7).
2 - Start the Process: In the left-hand sidebar, click Create a system image.
3 - Choose Destination: Select a secondary hard drive, a network location, or DVDs to save the image.
Note: Ensure the destination drive has enough space. A typical Windows installation may require 50GB–100GB or more.
4 - Confirm and Back Up: Review the partitions to be backed up (usually System Reserved, EFI, and C:) and click Start backup.
Part 2: Restoring the System Image
1 - Boot from Media: Insert a Windows 11 installation USB or DVD and restart your computer. You may need to press a key (like F12 or Del) to select the boot device.
2 - Enter Recovery Mode: On the Windows Setup screen, click Next, then click Repair your computer in the bottom-left corner.
3 - Navigate to Restore: Select Troubleshoot - Advanced options - System Image Recovery.
4 - Select Your Image: Windows will automatically search for the most recent system image on your connected drives. Ensure the correct date and time are shown and click Next.
5 - Complete the Restore: Click Finish. Windows will warn you that all data on the current drive will be replaced by the data in the image. Click Yes to begin. The process can take anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours depending on the amount of data.
