Teaching impulse control is pretty black and white.
“Impulse control” is really about teaching our dogs how to think!
Naturally, creatures with brains don’t necessarily know how to slow down and think of others until some kind of consequence interrupts their thought process.
As we teach our dogs to not pull out towards food we in turn teach them that staying seated actually gets them what they want.
We are controlling impulses THEN developing our DECISION MAKING.
Decision making and impulse control go hand in hand as you need one to teach a strong understanding of the other.
Dogs are extremely capable creatures who have the ability to learn what we want if we just take the time to teach them!
