A giant comet with a diameter of almost 200 kilometers is heading towards the inner solar system at extreme speed from the outer reaches. In 10 years it will fly by Earth, maybe you and I will see it. A huge comet called Bernardinelli-Bernstein, it is the largest object ever recorded to have reached our planet from the OORT cloud. This cloud is the outermost part of our solar system. A spherical shell composed of trillions of icy comets that completely surrounds our solar system. At any moment, any one of them could collide with another, change course, and head towards us—a giant comet that could destroy the Earth.
