In this class, Professor Rafaela Lima discusses microorganisms. Also known as microbes or germs, they are tiny living beings, invisible to the naked eye. They are present practically everywhere on the planet, from soil and water to the air we breathe and the inside of our bodies.

Types of microorganisms:
-Bacteria: Unicellular prokaryotic organisms, meaning they lack a defined nucleus. They can be found in various shapes and sizes.
-Viruses: Infectious agents that replicate inside host cells. They are considered living beings by some scientists and non-living by others. -Fungi: Eukaryotic organisms that feed on decaying organic matter. These include yeasts and molds.
-Protozoa: Single-celled eukaryotic organisms, generally found in aquatic environments.
-Microscopic algae: Photosynthetic eukaryotic organisms, which live in aquatic environments.
