In Miniature Painting you are often restricted in what you can do with the mini simply due to the choices of the sculptor who came before you. But it doesn't have to be like that, you can give the illusion of a structural change within the model merely by clever placements of your shadows and highlights. Shifting your mindset from 'mini painter' to 'sculptor' will help you see your paintjobs in a new light and unlock ideas that were previously out of reach. Although this tutorial shows how to approach this by painting skin on a model, you can expand that general idea to any part of a model. So grab a min off the shelf, put some paint on the palette and let's paint some miniatues!
