ESTON NAB Returned To The People (March 2014)
On 29th March 2014, after the best part of a thousand years if not more, the FOEH officially returned Eston Nab to the people. The ceremonial gathering of around 100 heard Craig Hornby read a proclamation (below). Guests of honour were Daphne Haverson daughter of the late Charlie Burdett who used to live in the Beacon as a boy in the 1920s. Plus his great great grandchildren Ellie and Jay Halliday. Before the eyes of the press, they cut a thick red ribbon around The Beacon Monument. Great cheer and the popping of corks followed and later, Craig Hornby gave a guided tour of the site and explained its bronze age, iron age and Napoleonic history. This was then followed by a trip down to Pit-Top, Barnaby Moor.
