To the valued members of the COVID-19 Critical Care Consortium,
3 years in the making.
64 countries.
440+ sites.
250,000+ hours of data entry.
And now, 20,000 patient records available for analysis. Thank you.
While this number represents the lives of patients we have seen through our ICUs that we must acknowledge and remember, it also represents hope.
Three years ago, we came together as a community with the idea to rapidly and safely share data and experiences in a meaningful way to not only inform at the bedside, but to support each other and improve outcomes for patients. The consortium, with members from around the world, is a truly global community, united by the common goal to do better for our patients and change the way international research projects are conducted in the future.
As the COVID-19 crisis rescinds, we must continue to discuss opportunities to overcome historical barriers to data sharing and global collaboration to remain agile and respond appropriately to the ‘everyday’ health crises in the critical care setting.
For now though, on behalf of the COVID Critical team, my sincerest thanks for your selfless dedication to this study.
THE COVID-19 CRITICAL CARE CONSORTIUM
The COVID-19 Critical Care Consortium was established at the start of the pandemic before coronavirus was even named.
We have brought together a collaboration of more than 400 hospitals and affiliated research centres from 64 countries to build a global database of de-identified information on treatment outcomes of critically ill COVID-19 patients.
Through data modelling we can generate clinical insights about a disease that was completely unknown before January 2020, revolutionising the way deidentified data can be safely and securely shared across the world.
THE CRITICAL CARE RESEARCH GROUP
A collaborative approach to improving patient outcomes - The Critical Care Research Group is a world leader in critical care research and biomedical engineering, developing technologies that improve outcomes for critically ill patients.
With a highly-skilled team of international researchers and a collaborative approach to medical advancements, our aim is to increase understanding of the many issues that face critically ill patients and find new or improved treatment methods for hard-to-treat diseases.
This research aims to increase survival rates and improve the quality of life for patients with life-threatening conditions.
