If you were to fall into a spent fuel pool, the first thing you would notice, is that the water would be extremely cold. The temperature in the pool is kept at around 25 degrees Celsius, which is much cooler than your body temperature. This sudden drop in temperature, could cause you to experience shock, which can be life-threatening.

They will then be taken to a decontamination area, to remove any radioactive material from their skin by series of showering and scrubbing. After decontamination, they'll receive medical attention.
