About this Video:
The National Building Control Office (NBCO) in conjunction with Meath County Council’s Building Control Section and Mountain Lodge Mechanical Services held a ½ day onsite workshop: regarding Inspections of Heat Pumps (Part J, D & L). Only a small number was in attendance on the day due to the Covid-19 restriction in place at the time. However, it was recorded for circulation on our YouTube Channel for all to view.
Note, until recently Building Control Officers/Inspectors were more familiar with traditional gas or oil heating systems but over the last few years these gas and oil systems have been replaced with Heat Pump technology. Heat pumps have been introduced to help Ireland meet its renewable energy obligations and have been factored into current building regulations.
Therefore, the Building Control Officers/Inspectors going to onsite inspections are now more likely to be greeted by a Heat Pump and it is with this in mind that the workshop was organised to help give an understanding of what the units do, what they look like and a general checklist off what to look for to help assert if the units are installed as per manufacturers guidelines, that they meet current building regulations and good practices.
The attendees got a chance to see a sample of Heat Pumps on the day. There are many different types of Heat Pumps available on the Irish market and the models on show gave the attendees a good picture of the various units.
There were demonstrations on how models should be sighted with required clearances and good working practices and on Multilayer pipe and fittings. Multilayer pipe has become the norm in new housing and again this is something that will be reasonably new to Local Authority Building Control Officers/Inspectors
There was also a Q & A session with the attendees.
