Four friends – four difficult destinies. Zakhar, Rasimka, Yashka, and Vilen first meet in an orphanage. The boys arrived there through different paths. Zakhar was abandoned by his mother at the maternity hospital. Rahim's parents died tragically. Vilen is the son of the sensitive and caring orphanage director, Nadezhda Romanovna. Yasha's mother works in the orphanage cafeteria.
The boys grew up and chose their professions. It seemed their whole lives lay ahead. But the Great Patriotic War ruined all their future plans. Zakhar, Rasimka, Yakov, and Vilen are caught in a whirlwind of events. Danger and courage, tragedy and love, patriotism and betrayal intertwine in the friends' destinies.
