Mk 38 25mm Machine Gun System M242 Bushmaster
The Mark 38 25mm gun mount is a single-barreled automatic shipboard based on the 25-mm M242 Bushmaster cannon developed by McDonnell Douglas and manufactured by Alliant Techsystems.
Cooling - air stabilization is absent, manual guidance. Shooting in semi-automatic (single shots) and automatic modes.
Work on the creation of the installation began in 1977, when the US Navy decided to replace the outdated 20-mm cannon Mk 16 (Oerlikon / Hispano-Suiza). In 1986, the first model of the installation, the Mark 38 Mod 0, was put into service in 1988. The installation consisted of an M242 cannon and a Mark 88 machine. It provided the means for defense and attack against light surface and coastal targets. For the US Navy, the Mark 46 was also developed with an increased rate of fire.
