Hello, dear friends! This is a short excerpt from my Saturday webinar as part of the online school "The Art of Communication with a Dog". In this video, I want to show you one of the ways to act correctly when your dog reacts violently to other dogs. Such an unwanted reaction in a dog usually begins after prolonged visual contact (3-5 sec.) If you do nothing in this situation and do not redirect the dog's attention from the irritant, then there is a high probability that your dog will break loose, provided that the dog is prone to this, like Leo from this video. This reaction in a dog is especially enhanced by holding it with a leash at this moment. The so-called "holding effect". Which is what happened to our friend Leo. The more the dog looks at the object, the more it concentrates and its intention to react increases. Therefore, friends, if your dog is prone to this behavior, you need to learn to block and redirect its attention. In this video, under my guidance, the owner managed to block Leo's strong reaction to another dog. To do this, you need to show the dog that you are unhappy with this behavior and can influence the situation. After the owner managed to block Leo's violent reaction with a sharp lateral jerk with an instant relaxation of the leash (impulse), I asked to use food. Food should be used to redirect, reward and reinforce the correct behavior pattern in Leo. Enjoy watching!
