A 15 percent reduction in the retail cost of electricity announced by Kenya Power in December was among the biggest news for consumers from the energy sector. Kenya Power indicated that the reduction in tariffs was in relation to a presidential directive and promised another similar slash in prices within the first three months of 2022. As Caroline Njenga tells us, the government also for six months in 2021 tapped the Petroleum Development Levy to subsidize pump prices.
