Medications can be administered directly into the bloodstream using an intravenous catheter.
It's inserted once and can be used repeatedly over several days.
This eliminates the need to constantly prick the animal's paws to find veins, and also prevents the animal from being injured by the needle if it becomes restless during the IV.
