Teaching the basics...Funga Alafia!
Sista Adama Jewel teaches youth in San Bernardino both dancing AND drumming, as she imparts the history and culture of one of the first authentic African Dances brought to the US in the 20th Century. Funga was taught to Dr. Pearl Primus in West Africa, and the traditions are still being upheld by cultural ambassadors who are dedicated to transmitting these messages of life and culture to the next generation.
