Behind The Scenes: Crafting the Stunning 2024 Brussels Flower Carpet
The making of the Brussels Flower Carpet in 2024 was a collaborative effort, completed by the dedicated hands of volunteers who meticulously placed each of the dahlia flowers. This year's event was particularly special as it marked the first time that dahlias, rather than the traditional begonias, were used as the primary flower, covering over 80% of the 1,600 square meter carpet. These volunteers, working under the guidance of experienced horticulturists and designers, brought the vibrant and intricate design to life, showcasing a blend of tradition and modern artistic expression.
The volunteers worked tirelessly, laying out the flowers according to the design created by street artist Océane Cornille, known as "Whoups." Her design, titled "Rhizome," reflects the interconnectedness and diversity of Brussels, with each line of the design representing the dynamic and complex network of the city. This meticulous process required not just physical effort, but also a deep understanding of the artistic vision, ensuring that the final result was a stunning and cohesive masterpiece.
The volunteers' efforts culminated in a breathtaking display that transformed the Grand Place into a vibrant tapestry of color and creativity, celebrating both the artistic heritage and the living culture of Brussels. Their contribution was not just a testament to their skill and dedication, but also to the communal spirit that makes the Flower Carpet a beloved event for locals and visitors alike.
