At the La Blanche Maison experimental farm, the system implemented is a mixed crop and livestock system based on agroecology, aiming to make the best use of the resources available on the farm.
Of their 140 hectares of UAA (Utilized Agricultural Area), 75 are dedicated to pasture and about 20 to corn. They therefore purchase almost all of their straw from outside sources. Furthermore, the experimental farm has over 15 km of hedgerows that they would like to utilize.
The use of wood chips from hedgerows as animal bedding is of interest to the farmers, but the existing data focuses on suckler cow systems.
