Atiba Ellis is a professor of law at Marquette University Law School. His research focuses on voting rights law with specific attention to how varying conceptions of the right to vote exclude voters on the margins. He has written about the economic entry barriers posed by voter ID laws, felon disenfranchisement laws, the theoretical effects of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision, the impact of the Supreme Court's decision in Shelby County v. Holder, and related topics. Ellis’s research focuses on voting rights theory, and how ideology affects the scope of the right to vote, as well as critical legal theory and legal history.

In 2022, the Jackson Center's programming theme is Democracy on Trial. We are hosting conversations on the pressures on, challenges to, and opportunities for democracy and democratic institutions in the United States and around the world. All Jackson Center programming is free and open to the public. To learn more about the Jackson Center, our mission, and our work, please visit us at www.roberthjackson.org.
