BookTok is way darker than I expected. With a mix of 'dark romance' cringey masktok men, biketok men and unhinged booktok tiktoks. It is funny, cringe, silly and way tooo thirsty.... myself included.
What started as me making jokes about TikTok’s “book boy thirst traps” turned into a deep dive into some of the most unhinged books I’ve ever read; Haunting Adeline, Lights Out, even A Court of Thorns and Roses. These books aren’t just “spicy romance”… some of them are basically horror disguised as love stories, and yet they’re being recommended to teens on TikTok every single day.
In this video, I investigate BookTok’s strangest side: The male creators chasing clout with creepy thirst traps. The books fans call it “romance” but they read like horror novels and then why these trends are everywhere on TikTok (and why it’s a problem)
Of course, it’s still a comedy video... I’ll be roasting TikToks, making dumb jokes, and putting myself through these books so you don’t have to. But underneath it all, there’s a real question here:
Should books like this have tighter regulations the same way music and movies do?
Stick around to the end for my “genius solution” to fix BookTok once and for all...
