In the summer of 2023, a shared interest in data science and a keen eye for aquatic monitoring in PEI brought four Charlottetown Rural High School students—Mark Seemann, Nout Guerts, Hamza Daqqa, and Parham Shahir—together to work on a project with UPEI's School of Applied Climate Change and Adaptation and its ClimateSense education program.
The team designed, built, and tested a solar-powered, eco-friendly buoy to collect oceanic data, working with technicians and instructors of UPEI's Applied Climate Change and Adaptation program.
