Meet Haji Kalimullah Khan, the legendary Mango Man of India.
A Padma Shri awardee, he has grafted over 315 mango varieties onto a single tree in Malihabad, Uttar Pradesh. This is not just a story about horticulture. It is about passion, legacy and the limitless spirit of innovation rooted in Indian soil.
What you will see in this film:
The Orchard: Wide and intimate shots of Haji Kalimullah walking among his trees in Malihabad, showing the sheer scale of his life's work.
The Grafting: Extreme close-ups of his grafting technique, showing how multiple mango varieties are fused onto a single tree, with different shapes, colours and textures all growing side by side.
The Man: Portrait shots of Haji Kalimullah speaking about his connection to the trees he treats like family, his philosophy and his legacy as a guardian of India's mango heritage.
This was one of my earliest documentary projects, made out of a genuine curiosity for real human stories and the extraordinary people who dedicate their lives to something most of us will never fully understand.
