Josef Krapp is a globetrotter. He once left his wife Martha to travel the world in search of adventure. Meanwhile, Martha cared for orphans at her "Sun Farm." She looked after the children with both love and a firm hand. Suddenly, Josef reappears in the small village. To the orphans, he's a cowboy with all sorts of stories to tell. They immediately take him to their hearts. Martha, however, fears that her husband is a bad influence on the children. And so, seemingly insurmountable conflicts quickly arise. Martha, who still loves her husband, demands that he leave immediately. The children are furious. But when Krapp helps them save thirteen old donkeys from slaughter, Martha, too, sees the good in her husband and can once again imagine a future with him.
... Thirteen Little Donkeys and the Sonnenhof is a German feature film from 1958. The film is based on the novel Thirteen Old Donkeys by Ursula Bruns, who also wrote the novels that inspired the Immenhof films. It is sometimes listed under that title.
