Simulation of data acquisition for positron emission tomography (PET)
Positron-electron annihilation results in back to back photon pairs which are detected and recorded as counts in sinogram, and also can be backprojected into a backprojected image.
The sinogram data can be modelled by the x-ray transform, taking line integrals (the Radon transform). In turn the backprojected image can be modelled by backprojecting the modelled sinogram.
