The Rogue Community College Jazz Band has a long history. Joe Chankin ran the band in the late 70's for several years and Dave Hegdahl directed the band in 1987 and 1988. The band was started up again in 2006 with Stan Marks and later with directors Colleen Callan and Vicki Purslow. In 2008 Joe Chankin and Dave Hegdahl pick up the leadership of the group as co-directors.
This video is from a performance at North Valley High School in May 1987. The band includes many local musicians including Larry Cavalier on piano, Jeff Haag on bass and Travis Ayriss on drums, Ron Lopes and Frank Minear on trumpet, Neal Doty, Roy Doty, Jerry Ostermeir on trombone, Joe Chankin, Ray Baily and Bill Garrett on saxophone.
