After multiple offenses, DUI charges become a felony. On the fourth potential conviction, after July 1, 2008, DUI charges are no longer misdemeanors; they are now charged as a felony. A Georgia DUI lawyer can oftentimes negotiate the charges down. However, there is no first offender plea available on a DUI, and if convicted of a 4th offense within ten years, you will be a convicted felon.
