A demonstration of the Alias PowerAnimator software, loading some of the demo models and clicking through shader presets.
PowerAnimator was an early industry standard in the 1990s prior to the introduction of Maya, and helped produce CG effects for a wide range of movies (Terminator II, Jurassic Park). PowerAnimator was also prominently used by Rare and Nintendo for games such as Donkey Kong Country.
Although videos and tutorials for newer versions of PowerAnimator exist, this might be the only footage on YouTube of how PowerAnimator looked in its earliest form. This version of PowerAnimator dates back to October 1993.
This video footage was captured on real hardware, using a period-correct Indigo2 with IRIX 5.3. Aside from fast-forwarding some of the rendering, everything here is exactly how it would have appeared in 1993.
