As a parent and as a musician, I’ve tried to influence my kids with what I think is the best music. Some of it they love, some of it they just don’t get, yet. We listened to Bowie in the car, loudly, from when they were young and Moonage Daydream was a track that the kids particularly loved. I think that’s b’cos of two lines, the opener ‘I’m an alligator’ and the line ‘you’re squawking like a pink monkey bird’ which are brilliantly playful and visual to kids when they’re just getting to grips with the notion of metaphor. I love hearing Patrick singing ‘I'll be a rock 'n' rollin' bitch for you’ b’cos he’s only 7 and so far from being a rock and rolling bitch himself - but at least that’s something to aspire to.

The pics on this video are from my 40th birthday when he sang this song to a large crowd whilst I played guitar so it’s a special song to us, and another little tip of the hat to the great David Bowie who has influenced us and who will no doubt, carry on doing so for long time still. Today is a sad day.

We recorded this in an afternoon with the great Anton Mullan, it was a bit of a rush and I’d not taken my flute out of it’s box for about 6 years prior to this but today, I’m glad that we did find time to record this track.
