Shaniwar Wada is a historic fortification in Pune, Maharashtra, built in 1732 by the Peshwas of the Maratha Empire. It served as the seat of the Peshwa until the British captured it in 1818. Today, it stands as a prominent tourist destination, offering insights into the Maratha Empire's grandeur and history.

The structure showcases a blend of Maratha and Mughal architecture, with its impressive wooden gates, stone walls, and beautiful gardens.

Shaniwar Wada has five gates:
▪️Main Entrance (Dilli Darwaza): The grand gateway is a striking example of Maratha architecture.It was the administrative headquarters of the Peshwas and played a pivotal role in Maratha history.
▪️ Mastani Darwaza: This gate was the entrance leading to Mastani’s palace
▪️Khidki Darwaza (Window gate): named for an armoured window it contains.
▪️Ganesh Darwaza: It was used by ladies at the fort to visit the nearby Ganapati temple
▪️Narayan’s Gate: One of the most haunting stories associated with Shaniwar Wada is that of Narayan Rao, the young Peshwa was assassinated at a young age. His ghost is said to still wander the grounds, He is said to have been assassinated at this gate.
