Partitioning is a powerful data management and performance tuning tool available in SQL Server. It allows users to create scalable tables that work well even when the size of the table reaches hundreds of GB. Most developers are unware of partitioning since they start off with small tables. Often it’s implemented well after the code is deployed to production. Typically when performance has degraded over time. In this video we explain some fundamental concepts of Partitioning and how it differs from other methods of placing data on drive such as the use of files and File groups. This video is the first in a four part series on all things related to partitioning so please feel free to check out the playlist.
